Internally Bound 2010
The Human body is often seen as a protective capsule, however, what we forget is the regenerative source of the human tissue is inevitably an uncontrollable element. I aim to address the restriction and suffocation of the human body by the creation of my Internally Bound collection, with reference to anatomical illustrations of the human body within structure and combining pieces that can be layered and revealed. The garments are constructed with a mix between chiffon, satin and jersey referencing the contrasting and yet vital relationship between the skeletal structure and muscle. Enhancing the structure, I have utilised smocking, tucking and binding to evoke a dissective depth and texture to my garments. The representation of the human body is dismembered and sutured in Internally Bound, to reveal the oppressive side of the human form.
